Who also goes by the name “Big Kahuna”, you’d be tempted to think that the name ‘big’ in his AKA means his physical structure but don’t be fooled. He is rather… Well, why don’t you meet him and find out?
Did you know that the term DJ didn’t exist until the 1930s? And the first ever DJ played/ Mixed jazz to entertain his guests? Amazing right? He must have had a weird mind but that’s what makes him amazing 🙂
If you are you a lover and a fan of House music or/and Dance Hall, then this will be your favorite DJ.
- When did you start Deejaying?
Goes as far back as beginning of high school. Back then all I did was use the software version of deejaying, Virtual DJ. Professionally, I began in 2011 after I met a pro DJ in Kisumu who listened to the mixes I had done using the software and was ready to teach me the finer part of deejaying.
- What’s the first thing you do when you get to an event?
Lets start with before leaving the house and all the way there. I’ll listen to some new tracks I might have acquired during the week. On the way there, I’ll listen to some mellow music to set my head straight. I might even listen to some string music, the operas and all. When I get there, I like to go around the club(if it’s a club) and try to see the people that are there. You have to pre- judge the crowd and try to put them in certain music clusters so that you know how to work your build up.
- What’s the biggest personal change you’ve ever made?
That would definitely be getting out of living a life as if everyone else around me means well, that was a lie.
- Do people really get any wiser as they get older?
I think we have it all wrong. If a kid is born and put in a room until he or she is 90 years old, is he or she wise enough? Experience makes you wiser, whether your own or another person’s. It’s just that the older you get, the more experiences you get.
- What do you do when the crowd isn’t responsive to your mixes?
Timing, Patience and Confidence. Especially if you start playing early at the beginning of the night or of the event, the crowd will still be chilling. Its up to you to build up their mood. If you rush to play the obvious hits, you know, the major tracks that everyone shakes a leg to, just because you want them on their feet, you will burn out so quick at a time when the mood is starting to near the roof.
- Best advice given?
As a DJ, first and main commandment, know and love your music. (I Love this! 🙂 )
- What are you working on at the moment?
Trying a hand on remixing local tracks, let see how that goes.
- What advice would you give me?
Once you make your job a passion, its smooth sailing all through.
- Pick a motto to live by
You Only Live Once, most definitely.
- Biggest compliment you have ever received?
“You were brought up well.” No compliment will ever surpass that one.
